Iceland Family Travel Review: Vatnajökull National Park, Vik, 10-Day Trip
Read More

This was our first international trip as a family, and with three little kids, it gave us such peace of mind to have an itinerary planned by someone so familiar with the country. The trip was wonderful--well paced for new travelers, but it still hit such a variety of activities and sites.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

We like our first accommodation the best. Having our own little cottage on a farm was perfect for us. It is certainly difficult to pick among the spectacular sites we saw, but I think we would put Vatnajökull National Park at the top of our list.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

Two things: 1. I would have reduced the number of scheduled activities that required us to be in a particular place at a particular time, in order to give us more flexibility to explore. Or I would have scheduled the activities at the very beginning of the day, so that we would have the remainder of the day without a deadline hanging over us. 2. I would have stayed further west than Vik, so that we had more time in Vatnajökull National Park.

Iceland Tour Review: Reykjavik, Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon, Glacier Hike, Whale Watching, One-Week Vacation

We had a fabulous time on our trip to Iceland. Jonathan was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout the planning and booking process, as well as the trip itself. During our trip planning, we went back and forth on itineraries, places to visit, and activities to do multiple times. Jonathan provided input and guidance throughout the process, curating a vacation that ended up being exactly what we were looking for. The booking was smooth and seamless. When we arrived and throughout our vacation, Jonathan regularly checked in to make sure everything was going well and see if we needed any help. We were thrilled with the activities and excursions he booked for us, and really appreciated the personal touches (full personalized itinerary of activities, maps of stops, restaurant recommendations, and more). On the rare occasion that an activity had to be canceled, Jonathan was prompt in helping us get a refund. It was so nice to just show up and have everything taken care of! Iceland is a beautiful country and we had a great time. I would highly recommend working with Jonathan and his team to anyone looking to arrange a trip to Iceland..

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

One of our favorite parts of the trip was taking a glacier hike. The staff was fabulous and the experience was unlike any other. Even with cloudy and drizzly weather, we were able to explore the glacier, learn about its history, and take in the surroundings. We felt safe the entire time and felt like the team was top notch. We also loved our time at the Blue Lagoon. The masks and complimentary drinks were great. It was a perfect way to start our trip after a red-eye overnight flight! Finally, the Golden Circle drive was excellent. The weather cleared for us that day and we had an amazing time seeing all of the sites and exploring the unique geography of Iceland. We unfortunately had bad weather for our whale watching tour and didn't get to see much, but may need to make a return trip to experience that next time!

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

I would not change much (except maybe the weather!). I would perhaps take Jonathan's advice more to heart and not try to pack in quite as many activities; I didn't anticipate how much time stopping at the various sites would take, so a slower itinerary might have been preferable. I would probably skip the West Iceland area (Into the Glacier and Krauma) and instead spend more time in/around Reykjavik or going to nearby sites. I also probably would have taken Jonathan's advice to do a morning whale watching tour instead of an evening one, since the morning tours seemed to have better sightings and better weather overall. That said, I have very few complaints--we had a great time!

Iceland Trip Review: Blue Lagoon, Landmannalaugar, Waterfalls, Glacier Bay, Diamond Beach, Glacier Hike, Lava Show

My trip to Iceland could not have gone any smoother. The itinerary was perfect for my two teenage boys and me. We saw many incredible things and had no difficulty getting from one place to the next. Jonathan provided us with information on where to go each day (hotel and attractions), how to get there, how long to expect to visit each place, and restaurants and other things to do. He also took care of booking excursions and the rental car (I loved the RAV 4 hybrid AWD!). Jonathan listened to what we were interested in doing/seeing and really delivered! I also like that he checked in on us during the trip and told us specifically where to go to see puffins - and we saw them!

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

There is too much to identify. What stood out were:Blue LagoonLandmannalaugar (the drive there was also incredible)The spectacular waterfalls The Lagoon and Glacier Bay (I was actually glad we did the zodiac at the smaller lagoon - visibility was terrible at Glacier Bay the day we were there)Diamond BeachThe glacier hikeThe lava show - it was very interesting

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

I would skip the Secret Lagoon. It was crowded and gross. Also, I would have brought a fly net!

Iceland Vacation Review: Reykjavik, Blue Lagoon, Snowmobiling, Glacier Hiking, Waterfalls, Geothermal Pools, Boat Ride

Jonathan (at this travel agency) arranged a terrific itinerary for our 10 day travels in Iceland and he was consistently communicative and accessible, by both phone and email, in arranging our trip with us. Every detail of our itinerary was listed for each day on the trip app. Jonathan updated it as necessary and included references to multiple potential sites to explore along our route. Having a WiFi hotspot in the 4WD Honda CRV rental, we were able to access the specifics for our accommodations, etc. as needed. Scheduling a visit to the Blue Lagoon immediately after our arrival, where we were able to relax in the warm salt waters of the expansive geothermal pools, is an example of Jonathan’s attention to detail and his excellent choices for our adventures. Immersing ourselves there after 12 hours of travel felt magical and was restorative. It was an exciting introduction to Iceland. The first night accommodations at a boutique hotel on the banks of a river in a small rural valley, is memorable for the pastoral setting and the nearby geothermal vents on the hillside. The small glass-enclosed restaurant overlooking the river at the hotel, served world-class gourmet food with an artistic presentation that was as impressive as the exceptional quality of the meals. We spent the next 9 days circumnavigating the island on the “ring” road, experiencing exciting adventures, staying at small hotels and enjoying great dinners at restaurants that Jonathan had helped us select. While the weather was overcast or raining during half of our days there, it didn’t slow us down. The layers of outerwear and waterproof rain pants we brought served us well. We followed the planned itinerary of activities - snowmobiling on a glacier, riding Icelandic horses, whale watching, hiking for several hours on a glacier, exploring a lagoon full of floating icebergs from a Zodiac boat, hiking to waterfalls, and soaking in several geothermal pools as we traveled around the country. The landscapes were stunning, even on the overcast days, and we saw far more sheep and horses than people during our travels! The absence of darkness during the long summer days afforded us extra time to experience the natural beauty of our surroundings well into the evenings. Our last day in Iceland was spent walking around exploring the marina district and central Reykjavik prior to our departure the next afternoon. We were very appreciative to have found such an excellent travel agent to plan our adventures!

Iceland Honeymoon Travel Review: Höfn, Vík, One-Week Vacation
Read More

Jonathan at this travel agency by far, exceeded our expectations! He was the 4th travel agent we had dealt with because the others did not listen to us or truly hear what we were requesting. This was the first time using a travel agent and it was for our honeymoon, so we wanted the least amount of hassle, but the most bang for our buck. Jonathan took the time to listen, come up with an itinerary that matched our desires and stayed in our budget. He was super friendly, extremely responsive even when on vacation himself, and willing to go the extra mile. He checked in via email on our arrival as well as our return home. We had NO issues with any check ins to hotels or excursions. This made it so easy to enjoy our honeymoon and beautiful Iceland. We have already referred friends and family. We just wish that Jonathan could help plan all our future trips!

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

The beautiful scenery. Iceland has so many amazing differences in the landscape. The people are very friendly and we had great tour guides for each of our excursions.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

We would have stayed in one spot more and not driven so much. We really liked Vík and over towards Hôfn.

Iceland Vacation Review: Reykjavik, Kvernufoss Waterfall, Lake Myvatn, Food Tour, One-Week Trip
Read More

We asked Jonathan to design an Iceland itinerary in which we wouldn't have to thread our way between the tour buses, and he delivered. We saw some of the standard sites, but we also went to many uncrowded but gorgeous places that gave us a very good sense of the majestic beauty of that country. One particularly memorable place was Kvernufoss Waterfall, aptly described in Jonathan's itinerary as a "hidden gem." It's not even in the common guidebooks.Jonathan was very accessible and responsive. We liked the hotels he booked and the restaurants he recommended. He also answered questions we had while en route. We feel we saw a lot of Iceland in a single week -- more than most tourists get to see.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

Each day had its own delights -- from the Reykjavik food tour, which gave us our only experience with an actual Icelander (it seemed as if everyone else we met was from Eastern Europe) to the fascinating sites around Lake Myvatn to the icebergs in the south. We didn't get to every destination he recommended, but we enjoyed all the ones we experienced.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

We had a couple of days of challenging driving on narrow roads with thick fog. We wonder if it wouldn't have been better to have stayed in Egilsstadir and skipped the hotel on the fjord. But of course, if the weather had been better, we might have felt differently. And the visit to the fjords gave us a taste of a different aspect of Icelandic life.

Iceland Tour Review: Reykjavik, Ring Road, Kirkjufell Mountain, Studlagil, Glacier Hike, Glacier Lagoon Boat Trip
Read More

This was our first international foray since the COVID pandemic started in 2020. We made the decision to go to Iceland, when the first Omicron surge had subsided, hoping we would be safe. Once we made the decision, we only had about a month to plan. We would normally spend 3-6 months or more planning a trip like this, but not knowing anything about Iceland, we felt we needed help from an experienced travel agent to help us. We are very lucky we found Jonathan through Zicasso. We had an amazing experience in Iceland. We did the Ring Road in 13 days. Jonathan put together an extensive itinerary, and booked very good to excellent hotels on very short notice (less than a month). E-mails were answered promptly, (accounting for the 7 hour time difference). He met with us by videoconference to find out what our interests were (including photography), so he could tailor the trip to our preferences, and show and discuss the various excursions that were available. He seemed to always be available for questions, and we did call him once during our stay about a potential time problem getting from one paid excursion to the next- but it actually worked out fine as he had planned. The 13 day trip was hectic- there is so much to see. We were able to stay for two nights in a few areas, which definitely helped. If you have less time, it will be very exhausting, or you will just have to choose what not to see. He kept the costs within our budget. All in all, Jonathan did a marvelous job, and we would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to visit Iceland.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

We most enjoyed the : Gullfoss, Dettifoss, Godafoss, Kirkjufell Mountain; the Canyons: Fjadrargljufur, Studlagil; and the geothermal areas. Dyrholaey Arch and Reynisfjara Beach. We also really enjoyed the Zodiac boats at Jokulsarlon Glacier lagoon. The Glacier hike was a bit tiring for us (we are active 65 year olds) and it was raining when we went, so the experience was suboptimal. Having seen limestone caves in various places around the world, we found the lava cave tour at Vatnshellir interesting and different (though not as beautiful as limestone caves). We also would recommend the Perlan museum in Reykjavik, which we saw at the end of our trip. It really helped explain a lot of how the various geological, glacial and geothermal sights we saw during our ring road journey were formed. We had a great time, and took almost 3000 pictures!

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

We would probably stay a few extra days, as we felt rather rushed. Not sure how this could be done in 10 days, unless you skip some sites, or spend 12-14 hours per day travelling and sightseeing. (This could be done in the summer since it never gets dark!) We went in late May, and it never got dark at night, even after sundown.

We were very please to have this Iceland tour company plan our trip. They were able to custom our trip according to our interest and they were able to replace our canceled trip quickly without any delay.Jonathan is our trip advisor, he has done an amazing job to take care of our trip plan and answer my calls all the times. It is like having a 24-hour butler service.100% highly recommend to my friends and families to use their service.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

My entire trip is enjoyable and memorable but the most is the Ice Cave trip.

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

I don't think that I would do any differently. However, I probably would like to request to have a high energy tour guide instead of the low ones. Our three day trip to the south cost, we had a low energy tour guide. He was going off by the book and seemed to be less motivated. Compare with the tour guide who took us to the Lava tunnel, that tour guide had a very high energy and stopped by few places along the way that they weren't listed in the trip. He made the trip more fun.Next time when I visit to Iceland again, I would probably request to join his tours.

Iceland Travel Review: Reykjavik, Glacier Lagoon, Snowmobiling on a Glacier, Ice Cave Hike

The travel planner put together a 5-day itinerary for us that was tailored to our interests and travel style. He was super helpful in giving us suggestions but happy to make any modifications that we requested. His responses to emails were always fast and full of helpful information about any details for day trips or hikes or even customs in Iceland. All of the hotels he selected for us were top-notch with excellent accommodations and restaurants. We had a wonderful trip and experienced true Icelandic hospitality. Our favorite activities were the Snowmobiling on a glacier and the Ice cave hike and exploration. Both were not for the timid but the pay off was amazing. I'd highly recommend these activities as well as the hotels and also the travel company and travel planner. Thank you so much! We hope to return soon.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

Snowmobiling on a glacier, Glacier Lagoon and exploring Reykjavìk

Great first trip to Iceland! We had a wonderful visit driving around the ring road. Everything went very smoothly from the car rental to hotels to the itinerary suggestions. We had good communication with our travel agency and they were very responsive to questions or adding our own itinerary suggestions. We were traveling with 3 relatively young kids and the travel suggestions included kid and family friendly activities which was very helpful.

What were the most enjoyable or memorable parts of your trip?

The beautiful scenery, hiking, whale watching tour, and Icelandic hot springs - we visited 7 in total during our stay and enjoyed them all!

If you could take your trip again, what would you do differently?

Nothing - we enjoyed all of it and are planning a trip back to see the Northern Lights! An easy trip with non stop flight from Chicago makes this an easy destination for future trips.
